Osteoarthritis is a degenerative (destroying) disease of the joints. Even young people can be affected if they put a lot of stress on their joints. However, the risk of developing the disease generally increases with age.
Untreated primary arthrosis can lead to arthritis (joint inflammation) in its advanced stages. Besides limited mobility, pain is the main problem for those affected.
Early symptoms include nagging pain, such as when lifting heavy objects, and morning stiffness. The hips and knees are often affected.
The joints creak, swell from effusion, and are prone to inflammation. Ultimate symptoms include limited motion, leading to joint instability.
Preventive treatment makes sense.
